Our mission
Car Trouble Lab is being built to make the moment between “something is wrong” and “authorize this repair” less opaque. We organize trouble codes, observable symptoms, vehicle applications, source evidence, and cost context into one decision-oriented record.
The goal is not remote diagnosis. It is to help a driver understand what is known, what is uncertain, what should be checked next, and which questions deserve an answer before money changes hands.
Why make and model are not enough
Vehicles sold under the same model name can use different engines, transmissions, option packages, software calibrations, suppliers, and mid-year revisions. A useful issue record therefore narrows applicability whenever the evidence supports it.
- Model year and generation
- Engine, transmission, drivetrain, and option code
- Build-date or serial-number window when available
- Operating condition, symptom, and diagnostic-code combination
Independent by design
Car Trouble Lab is not a manufacturer, dealer, repair shop, government agency, vehicle-history provider, or inspection service. Commercial relationships will be disclosed and separated from evidence and editorial conclusions.
We may eventually earn revenue from clearly labeled advertising, affiliate links, or qualified service referrals. Compensation does not purchase a favorable issue rating, ranking, or omission.
Current launch status
This version is an initial product and editorial prototype. Sample records demonstrate the intended schema and user experience; they are not yet a complete live database. Production records will identify source links, retrieval dates, review dates, revision history, and coverage limits.
See how these standards affect every vehicle record.
