Acceptance and scope
These Terms govern access to and use of Car Trouble Lab. By using the site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site. If you use the site for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it to these Terms.
Our Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure provide additional information about site operation and commercial links.
Information only—not professional advice
Site content is general educational information. It is not legal, financial, engineering, repair, or other professional advice, and it does not create a technician-client or other professional relationship.
A trouble code, symptom, complaint pattern, or cost range is not a vehicle-specific diagnosis or repair authorization. Causes and remedies vary by application, condition, maintenance history, build date, and inspection findings. Confirm decisions with the vehicle owner’s manual, current manufacturer or government instructions, and a qualified professional who can inspect the vehicle.
Safety comes before site use
Do not read, search, or enter information on the site while driving. No page on this site overrides a recall notice, owner’s manual warning, dashboard instruction, emergency responder, manufacturer, or qualified technician.
If a vehicle has unsafe braking or steering, severe shaking, sudden power loss, smoke, fire, overheating, a fuel smell, a critically low tire, or a “do not drive” instruction, move out of traffic and stop in a safe place when conditions permit. Shut the vehicle down when appropriate and contact emergency services, roadside assistance, the manufacturer, or a qualified repair professional. Do not continue driving merely because site content appears reassuring.
Information and service are not guaranteed
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, availability, or non-infringement.
Sources may be incomplete, delayed, revised, or wrong. Cost ranges are not quotes and may exclude diagnosis, taxes, fees, related damage, or regional and vehicle-specific differences. We do not promise that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Rights that cannot be disclaimed under applicable law remain in effect.
External and affiliate links
The site may link to government records, manufacturers, repair providers, retailers, or other third parties. We do not control their content, availability, security, prices, policies, or services, and a link does not by itself mean endorsement. Your use of a third-party site is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy practices.
We may receive compensation when you follow certain links or complete a qualifying action. Any material commercial relationship should be disclosed clearly near the relevant recommendation or link; see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Permitted use and site rights
You may use the site for lawful, personal research. You may not disrupt the service, introduce malicious code, bypass access or security controls, misrepresent site content, or reproduce or commercially republish the site’s original selection, organization, or presentation without permission.
Public facts and third-party documents remain subject to the rights and terms of their respective sources. Car Trouble Lab’s original writing, design, branding, and compilation are protected to the extent provided by applicable law.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Car Trouble Lab and its operators, contributors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, use, goodwill, or repair decisions arising from site use or inability to use the site.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, aggregate liability for claims relating to the site will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid Car Trouble Lab to use the site during the previous 12 months. These limits do not apply to liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit.
Governing law and disputes
Except where mandatory law requires otherwise, these Terms and disputes relating to them are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which the site operator has its principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and will be brought in the state or federal courts serving that location. This section does not waive non-waivable consumer protections or an available right to bring an eligible claim in small claims court.
Changes and enforcement
We may update the site and these Terms, and may restrict access to protect the service, other users, or third parties. The reviewed date identifies the current version. Material changes will receive additional notice when appropriate. Continued use after revised Terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
